This event will mark the publication of Twentieth Century Music in the West by Tom Perchard, Stephen Graham, Tim Rutherford-Johnson and Holly Rogers (published by Cambridge University Press)

The book is the first introductory survey of western twentieth-century music to address popular music, art music and jazz on equal terms. It highlights the interconnections between different genres and styles, enabling better understanding of their aesthetics, practice and key repertoire. It is designed for easy use by students and teachers.

The authors will present the book and some of the music it addresses, and then lead a discussion to further explore the possibilities and problems faced in rethinking music histories and curricula. A reception will conclude.

No reservation is necessary.

The event will take place in RHB 143, in the Richard Hoggart Building. Access is via the main entrance on Lewisham Way. For full travel and accessibility information, please visit
