You are warmly invited to Sound System Outernational #9: UK Generation 2 Generation Research Documentary Premiere at the Goldsmiths Cinema, followed by a Young Warrior dance on Saturday, 6 May 2023 at Goldsmiths, University of London.
Sound System Outernational #9: UK Generation 2 Generation research documentary is based upon the UK Sound System Reasoning Day: Continuities and Disruptions event hosted by Sound System Outernational on Saturday, 5 November 2022, at Goldsmiths University. The event brought together sound system operators from around the UK and across different generations to celebrate and exchange knowledge about how sound system culture and practice is performed; preserved, changed between generations; appropriated; accessed or limited.
The Sound System Outernational #9: UK Generation 2 Generation research documentary provides a compelling account of the event, showcasing the highlights from the reasoning sessions and capturing the dynamic vibe and atmosphere of what was a brilliant coming together of the UK sound system community.
Programme:
6pm Doors
6.20pm Introduction and film start
7.30pm Film discussion and reflection
9.00pm Drinks reception at Thirty-Five Café (beside Goldsmiths Cinema)
10.00pm Young Warrior dance at Goldsmiths Student Union (ticket link below)
The free-to-attend premiere on Saturday, 6 May 2023, will be followed by a dance hosted by Young Warrior sound system at the Goldsmiths Student Union, a short walk across the road from Goldsmiths Cinema. Young Warrior is a Lewisham based sound system operator, producer, presenter and son of the legendary Jah Shaka.

About Sound System Outernational (SSO)
SSO is an ongoing initiative of practitioners and researchers, in association with Goldsmiths, University of London, dedicated to recognizing, stimulating and supporting sound system culture worldwide. Since 2016 Sound System Outernational has created spaces for dance and discussion by organizing events and curating publications to bring together practitioners and researchers of sound system culture worldwide, fostering intergenerational conversations to strengthen the culture and to explore its technologies, aesthetics and politics.
About Sonic Street Technologies (SST)
SST is proud to support SSO#8 for this event. SST is an ERC-funded research project launched in 2021 examining the culture, diaspora and knowledge of subaltern and Global South uses of mobile sound technologies.
