Women's Art Library presents an installation of multiples, archives and artwork celebrating an inspired resonance between two artists through scripting.
Bhajan Hunjan (nominee for the 2022-24 Max Mara Prize for Women) was the 2020 artist in residence at the Projecto Maria Lucia Cattani (1958-2015). Hunjan is also a featured artist from the Women of Colour Index in the Women's Art Library with an archive going back to the 1980s. Special Collections will display her latest work alongside pieces from Maria Cattani's oeuvre in a colour-filled exchange highlighting Cattani's script works and Hunjan's scripted pieces inspired by Sikh Gurbani scriptures. The art works will be contextualized by items from the Women's Art Library documenting the work of both artists in a rare display of original artwork alongside the documentation produced by art practice. This exhibition was originated by the curator Sara Roberts for Winchester School of Art Library. Her accompanying text will be featured along with a video made by Nick Rands of the Projecto Maria Lucia Cattani, Brazil. This exhibition opened on 25 April and has been extended to 28 July 2023.
