Event overview
Is the sky blue and what are the historical, religious, artistic and scientific moments that make it so?
Christina Hemauer and Roman Keller have investigated the interrelations of energy and society for many years. They are interested in historical moments where decisions could have taken society on alternative routes. One convolute of works surrounds US President Jimmy Carters solar installation on the White House which was taken down during the subsequent presidency (e.g. ‘A Road not Taken’ (2010).
In the recent years Hemauer/Keller are examining the human-nature relationship in the age of climate change. In collaboration with climate scientists for ‘Concerning the Blueness of the Sky‘ (2015) they learned that we’re already living under an anthropogenic firmament. The colour of the sky is not observed scientifically as it is not considered to be a relevant value. In their investigations, the artist duo explores the historical, religious, artistic and scientific connections of the changing firmament.
Christina Hemauer studied art in Zurich and Ghent (Belgium), Roman Keller Environmental Sciences at ETH Zurich and photography in Zurich, New York and Karlsruhe. Hemauer/Keller work together since 2003 and use various media like installation, performance, video, sound and photography.
