Sit back and relax with a breathtaking meditative spectacle of buddhist dance, 'Paramita', followed by an interactive Chinese tea ceremony.

Goldsmiths Confucius Institute for Dance and Performance is proud to present its final performance of the season, 'Paramita'.

Find your own pathway to enlightenment and nirvana with an awe inspiring and philosophical look into buddhist dance performed and choreographed by Beijing Dance Academy graduate and Goldsmiths Confucius Institute resident sword dance teacher, Yining Chen.

Paramita

The word paramita means 'perfection' or 'completeness'. The Mahayana Buddhist texts contain many references to six paramitas (or perfections) of the character and understanding.
The place of freedom from earthly troubles and attainment of righteousness is a 'paramita' of Buddhism. Everyone is searching for a way to reach nirvana, and this path accumulates what we have been practicing. Perhaps it is a search of one's own, perhaps there are ties along the way, from simple to complex, from isolated to involved, the connection between all things is hidden and untold.

Choreographer: Yining Chen
Performers: Jiaolong Ma , Qinghe Yi, Yuhao Yin, Hui Jing, Yining Chen

Sonic Seasoning

The evening will finish with Sonic Seasoning - a social gathering in the Refectory garden space (the Quad) for an interactive Chinese tea ceremony and live music session.

The main focus of this event is to explore multi-sensory experiences and how the sense of taste mingles with the sense of listening. Live ambient music performed by Julia Deng Hanzu and Lawrence Kirk III; the tea ceremony will be undertaken by Chenjin Ying, Danni Wang and Roy Dong.

- 17:30 Buddhist Dance Performance, Council Chamber, Deptford Town Hall
- 18:00 Chinese Tea Ceremony, the Quad (outside Goldsmiths canteen, Richard Hoggart Building)
