Join us for a fascinating look at a series of short-films made by Chinese filmmakers. Includes an introductory talk by Dr. Yu Zhou from the University of Glasgow.

Goldsmiths Confucius Institute Short-Film festival will showcase a series of new short-films created by local London and international filmmakers. Film Studies specialist, Dr. Yu Zhou will give an opening talk and Q&A prior to the screening.

Metamorphosis (2022)
Metamorphosis is a dance short-film inspired by the traditional Chinese allusion "Zhuang Zhou's Dream of Butterflies". The director creates a lucid dreaming space to explore dreams and subconsciousness and fluid gender awareness

Dove Che is a Director and performance maker whose works mainly centre around dance, physical theatre, performance art and fashion.

Revitalization:Pictorial Oracle Bone (2022)
Exploring symbols and characters in the form of images to reflect personal artistic structure whilst using visual means to solve cultural division.

Miao Ding's art practice always revolves around a single main line, that is her own life trajectory.

HEY (2023)
Greetings to the loss of cells and memories in my body, leaves in fall, and the moon yesterday. 'HEY' is the first dance made after the artist's return to Melbourne. Originally from China, dancer (Weichen) spent considerable time performing in abroad. This work came from her nomadic experiences. It embodies the metabolism of the human body and its connection to nature, culture, and society. This work reflects their genuine experience as Chinese artists living overseas.

Qing Yang is a digital artist, deeply immersed in the boundless realm of poetic art concepts, exploring the juncture where art and multimedia visuals converge.

《袖刃》 Sleeve Blade (2022)

Sleeve Blade is a captivating dance film that celebrates the elegance and allure of the traditional Chinese Water Sleeve dance, a powerful embodiment of femininity — graceful yet filled with strength.

The film strives to delve deep into the richness of Chinese traditional culture, using visual and auditory narratives combined with cinematic artistry to represent the grand concept 'heaven is round, earth is square'.

Sleeve Blade featured as part of the 11th Zhongguancun International Youth Art Season 2022.

The Hundred Family Names - Linghu Xiaozhuan (2023)
This is a creative audio-visual work combining field recordings, vocals, compositions, and field photography to explore the significance of family names and their extended ideas. Exploring birth, life and death.
