Event overview
Join us for a reading group, organised by library workers, as part of the efforts to increase engagement with the 'liberate' collection.
The ‘Liberate our Library’ campaign was initiated by the Student Union and sees funds ring-fenced to develop collections to include the voices of under-represented and institutionally oppressed groups and people.
The theme for this first meeting will be everything ZINES!
Together we will look at and read from four selected zines in the collection. They cover overarching themes of the creative/artistic experience, underrepresentation and the amplification of marginalised voices:
'Where is Ana Mendieta?'
'What the Lorde said'
'ROOT-ed : revolution of our time'
'G.A.P. (Girls About Peckham)'
Time will be allocated for talking about the history of zines, reading and browsing through these zines, discussing in small groups, and then feeding back to the whole group at the end.
Unfortunately, we aren’t able to digitise the zines due to copyright/capacity, so for the time being, it will be an in-person, rather than hybrid, session.
All welcome! Hope to see you there!
