Could artificially intelligent machines become conscious?

This event is part of the Goldsmiths AI UK Fringe public discussion series: AI Consciousness, Creativity and the Climate Crisis in collaboration with The Alan Turing Institute.

Join Dr Tim Blackwell, in a cutting edge discussion around machine consciousness. Underpinned by computer science, information theory and physics, Dr Blackwell investigates how the Computational Theory of Mind has surprising consequences.

Could artificially intelligent machines become conscious? What might the consequences be of ‘conscious machines’? What are our responsibilities towards them and their use?

Either consciousness is far more prevalent in the universe than we can ever imagine, or physical reality is incomplete. The first alternative raises profound ethical issues; the second suggests a spiritual interpretation.
