An exhibition of writing by BA Fine Art Extension students, 2023-2024

This exhibition showcases writing produced by international students for their Portfolio of Art Writing as part of the BA Fine Art Extension Programme in the Art Department.

The writing takes the form of poems, short fiction pieces, performative texts, translations, essayistic writing, and hybrid forms, often in response to or inspired by artists, writers, and critics, ranging from painter Amy Sillman, filmmaker and artist Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, conceptual artist Sophie Calle, poet and novelist Renee Gladman, writer Anthony (Vahni) Capildeo, poet and essayist Cathy Park Hong, musician Patti Smith, sound artist JJJJJerome Ellis, translator Mahwash Shoaib, and many others.

Alongside individual contributors, the students also exhibit their collective zine, ALL IS LOST, the result of a workshop “Write a Poem from the Spines of Library Books: Zines as Interventions in the Library” with librarian, Jessa Mockridge and lecturers, Dr Sophie Seita and Dr Isobel Harbison, 19 March 2024.

The exhibition will open with a series of short readings from the portfolios and zine, from 5pm in the Prokofiev Room, all welcome!
