This event aims to tackle a range of topics and questions that will inform, champion and inspire our students who identify as being part of the global ethnic majority.

Goldsmiths University Careers Service will be hosting a Global Ethnic Majority (GEM) Panel
Discussion. Taking place during Black History Month, the event aims to tackle a range of topics and questions that will inform, champion and inspire our students who identify as being part of the global ethnic majority.

The panel will be made up of professionals representing a variety of industries and at different stages of their career journey, all of whom are of GEM heritage. Discussions on the day will revolve around our panelists' journey through higher education, their various experiences within the workplace as well as offering advice and guidance to students in attendance.

On average across the whole population applicants for jobs from ethnic minorities have to send 60% more applications to receive the same number of call backs as white candidates.
Additionally, only 5% of black workers are in management and senior roles in comparison to
11% of white British workers. [Insititute of Student Employers, Oct 2021]

Through hosting this dedicated event, we are taking action to support students develop their
network, access opportunities and receive informal careers advice from professionals.

The panel discussion will be followed by networking with light refreshments provided!
