Join us at 'Only Connect' for a day of creative writing and connection at the British Library - let's get inspired together!

Join us for 'Only Connect', at The British Library, for a day of creative writing fun! This will be an inspiring event, full of writing prompts and networking with fellow writers. Whether you're a seasoned writer or just starting out, this event is perfect for anyone looking to connect with like-minded individuals and explore their creative side. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to unleash your imagination in the heart of London's literary scene!

Run by the MA Creative Writing and Education at Goldsmiths and the LSRN's London Convenors, both students and staff, this wonderful creative writing day will help you improve as a writer and learn more about the British Library's amazing collection.

The day will consist of four workshops that you can participate in:

Dangerous dialogue run by Janet Hoggarth, MA Creative Writing and Education

Dialogue between two characters in the library; this workshop will focus upon you finding 2 characters of interest to you in the library, guided by your tutor, who will help you write some creative dialogue between the two characters. You’ll learn to tell a story through dialogue.

Wired for sound run by Katharina Sheldon, MA Creative Writing and Education

Using the British Library’s sound archive to generate unique creative writing. You’ll listen to some fascinating sounds, and be invited by your tutor to write creatively in response to the sounds.

Answering back run by Aimee Cumberbatch, MA Creative Writing and Education

Engaging with the Treasures of the British Library. In this workshop, you’ll have a chance to answer back to the archive using creative writing. You’ll think about how and why the archive has emerged, and consider the forgotten voices buried within it or excluded from it.

Engaging with the scents and smells of the British Library run by Lisette Alexander

Go on a marvellous journey around the historical and contemporary smells of the library, and explore them through some exciting creative writing prompts.
