Event overview
Loveconomics: how do we get beyond the grind to a world that values us all?
Dr Laura Basu will present work in progress for her new book project, which shows how the personal is always political. Loveconomics dismantles the opposition between identity politics and economics, showing how our capitalist global economic system affects our deepest identities, and even the ways we forge our most intimate relationships, the ways we love.
Basu uses personal stories from her own daily life — including about motherhood, chronic illness and race — and unravels how the everyday headaches of our domestic lives and the dystopia on the news are connected to the deepest structures of our global economy. To get out of the doom loop we are in, we need a whole new economic system that values the important things in life, which are love and care. We need a whole new economics: Loveconomics.
