Event overview
An exhibition curated by final year BMus Music student Joquan Johnson, celebrating the lives and works of four remarkable Black British musicians.
A week-long exhibition will also be held from Thursday 8 May to Tuesday 13 May (excl Sunday) in Room 106 at Deptford Town Hall, featuring the lives and works of four remarkable Black British musicians:
Samuel Coleridge Taylor (1875 – 1912)
George Bridgetower (1778 – 1860)
Joseph Antonio Emidy (1775 – 1835)
Amanda Aldridge (1866 – 1956)
The exhibition will include posters, audio/visual components of their music, historical newspaper clippings, and documentary clips showcasing their incredible contributions to classical music.
This is an opportunity to both see and hear the enduring legacies of these gatekept musicians while engaging with scholars at the forefront of this research.
