I-n-I Roots, Globally Local Celebrating the Strands of Deptford.
I-n-I Roots is a poetry-based celebration of the globally local strands of the Deptford and New Cross African and Caribbean diaspora as perceived by first year undergraduate Sociology students studying Culture and Society at Goldsmiths University of London. Crafted and Afro-scripted into long-form poetry the students' semiological study of Afro hairdressing traces the tresses of Deptford and New Cross as a globally local space for the elaborate acculturation of Black Britishness. The principal researcher is Dr. Pamela Odih and the research is funded by a British Academy and Leverhulme Trust award (2024/25).
Mapping the lived experience of migration through embodied autoethnography.
Dr Marina Rova will discuss her research weaving autoethnography and movement towards developing her practice inquiry into the lived experience of migration. The research reveals that conflict, hope, love and loss are inextricably entangled with the journey of migration which is, among other things, a story about being found. The methodology is framed within a five-part site-specific ceremonial practice that includes arriving, creating, gathering, witnessing and departing and invites the inquirer to experience active listening from the positions of the mover and the witness. The research animates the experience of moving through space and time, across borders and towards the unknown.
