As part of SEEN Lewisham 2025, don’t miss the preview of the powerful short film Statues

Join us for an intimate, work in progress, preview screening of Statues. The film will be followed by live performances from the cast and production team, the opportunity to hear more about the ideas behind the film and the process of making it, and a Q&A.

Statues is a sight-specific performance film conceived by artist Reece Piccigallo, created in response to the statues that stand on the facade of the Deptford Town Hall building in New Cross, where the film was written and filmed. It features original spoken word, rap and music performance by a group of local young artists and filmmakers inspired by collaborative research on the history and impact of the statues, their stories, and their presence.

Filmed and lit by Timothy Bui (Azulicine)

Filming assisted by Devantai Le

Sound recording assisted by Mikey Kirkpatrick and Léonie Koul

Movement / choreography by Stephanie McMann

Spoken Word Mentor: Yasmin Ali

Original music, spoken word, rap and performance by:

Nievia Blake, Moziah DeRoche, Javarn Nnoli, Reece Piccigallo, Timothy Wairama

Co-created by the artists, with direction guidance from filmmaker Chiara Ambrosio

Production Assistant and Documentation: Joquan Johnson

Brought to you by Goldsmiths Alchemy with support from the Goldsmiths Civic Catalyst Fund.
