Please join us for a rare screening of Alina Gorlova’s 2020 film 'This Rain Will Never Stop'.

'This Rain Will Never Stop' takes the audience on a powerful and visually arresting journey through humanity’s unbroken cycle of conflict and fragile peace. The film follows 20-year-old Andriy Suleyman, born in Al-Hasakah, Syria, to a Kurdish father and a Ukrainian mother. His family flee the Syrian civil war and resettle in eastern Ukraine, only to find themselves once again living on the edge of a new conflict. Lysychansk becomes an increasingly precarious city marked by bombardment, displacement and humanitarian crisis, where ordinary life persists in the shadow of violence.

Confronted with the suffering around him, Andriy volunteers with the Red Cross. His work brings both purpose and emotional strain, drawing him away from his earlier ambitions and reviving memories of the war he escaped. As his parents urge him to seek a future in the West, Andriy travels to Germany for his brother’s wedding, glimpsing the stability his family hope he will pursue. Yet he remains bound to the places and people shaped by conflict, returning to the Middle East to reunite with relatives he has not seen for eight years. Their shared stories reveal a history of displacement, endurance and loss.

Alina Gorlova, born and raised in Ukraine, is a graduate of Karpenko Kary Kyiv National University of Theatre, Film and Television, and the MA Artists’ Film and Moving Image at Goldsmiths, University of London. 'This Rain Will Never Stop' (2020) received wide recognition, including the Best First Appearance award at IDFA. Her new film 'Militantropos' (2025), co-directed with Yelizaveta Smith and Simon Mozgovyi, has begun its international festival run and has already received early awards. It is expected to premiere in London very soon.
