Research Cafés are free public talks in an accessible space. Refreshments are provided and we invite questions and discussion from the floor.

Our next event is in collaboration with Lewisham Libraries at Deptford Lounge on 11th February, and ties in with LGBTQ+ History Month.

Consumer Resistance Towards Capitalist Patriarchy: An Exploration Of Female Queers’ Migration To Rural Communities In China (Dr Shuo Feng)

This talk draws on a mixed-method ethnography-netnography of a group of Chinese queer females, studying their assemblage through online communities and digital platforms in pursuit of rural living and alternative social initiatives, to explore alternative approaches of consumer resistance toward capitalist patriarchy.

Dr Shuo Feng is a Lecturer in Luxury Brand Management in the Goldsmiths School of Creative Management.

Making an exhibition: Queer Along the River: South London LGBTQ+ history and art (Dr Catherine Hahn)

Dr Hahn will explore key ideas in Queer Along the River, which is on display at Deptford Lounge from the 4th of February for LGBTQ+ History Month. The discussion will focus on Catherine's collaborative art methodology and its revival of South London’s diverse, working-class LGBTQ+ history. She will also talk about challenges that arose in the creation of the exhibition.

Catherine is the lead artist and researcher on Queer Along the River and a Visiting Research and Knowledge Exchange Fellow at Goldsmiths with the Migrant Futures Institute.
