The first Migrant Futures Institute Forum of 2026 welcomes Dr. Jason Cabañes to present initial reflections from The Migrant Influencers Collab (MIC) Project

Can digital influencers help build cross‑cultural solidarity in postcolonial cities?

Dr Jason Cabañes shares first insights from the The Migrant Influencers Collab (MIC) Project, which explores how influencer cultures might be mobilised to push back against distinctive postcolonial racisms and foster new forms of cross‑cultural solidarity. The project’s pilot “influencer training camp” (Manila, Nov 2025) brought together young creators of Filipino, Korean and South Asian heritage to co‑produce social media campaigns that spark conversations across the city's cultural communities. The camp was co‑designed with established content creators, and co‑organised with the Asian Center for Journalism at Ateneo de Manila University (ACFJ) and the University of the Philippines Korea Research Center (UPKRC). Jason will be sharing his initial reflections on this MFI-funded project.
