Event overview
A talk of Prof. Nicola Dimitri (University of Siena), as part of the Economy & Society research seminar series in the School of Creative Management
ABSTRACT
The Blockchain is a disruptive technology introduced in 2008 by Satoshi Nakamoto. Since then a plethora of blockchain-based companies were founded providing services such as financial transactions and others. Blockchains exhibit a number of interesting economic-political-social features. After an initial introduction to the fundamentals of the Blockchain, in the talk I will discuss some economic issues based also on my own work. In particular, consensus based on Proof-of-Work (PoW, Bitcoin) versus Proof-of-Stake (PoS, Ethereum) and their economic-environmental implications. Moreover, I will consider the main features of the so called Automated Market Makers (AMM), companies which automatically implement currencies exchange or provide liquid loans to customers, guaranteed by a collateral of digital currencies.
