A series of talks from leaders in tech to inspire our students in their own journeys.

In this talk, please join Matt Cartmell, Chief Executive of Music Technology UK, to hear about the diverse career paths that lead into music tech. Matt will share his journey from music journalism and tech PR to leading the UK's music tech trade body, demonstrating how skills in communication, ecosystem building, and understanding impact drive the sector forward alongside engineering talent.

He'll talk about the music tech startup landscape, the range of skills early-career professionals bring to the table, and how students can position themselves for opportunities in this growing sector—whatever their background.

Bio: Matt Cartmell is Chief Executive of Music Technology UK, the trade body representing the UK's music tech sector. His career has zigzagged through music journalism, tech PR, news journalism, and trade association leadership. In 2023, he founded Music Technology UK to connect startups, investors, and the music industry, building a community of over 200 members. Matt's background demonstrates that the music tech sector thrives on diverse skillsets—engineers alongside people who can communicate, build networks, shape narratives, and translate innovation into real-world impact.
