Event overview
A discussion of empirical findings concerning how AI systems may change human relationships and our beliefs and preferences, knowledge and skills, and agency and empowerment.
ABSTRACT:
AI is set to transform our economies and create new hazards for security. However, it is also set to change the fabric of society in unpredictable ways. In my lecture, I will discuss emerging empirical findings concerning how AI systems may reshape society, by changing the nature of human relationships, the way our beliefs and preferences are formed, the way we acquire and deploy knowledge and skills, and our opportunities for agency and empowerment.
BRIEF BIOGRAPHY:
I am Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Oxford, and a Research Director at the UK AI Security Institute. My work focuses understanding the cognitive and neural mechanisms that underlie human learning and decision-making, and on studying the impacts of AI on society. My research bridges the fields of cognitive science, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence. I am particularly interested in how insights from human cognition can inform the development of more advanced and safer AI systems.
