We welcome back to Goldsmiths the second annual Hyperchromatic Music Festival - come learn about and listen to contemporary microtonal music!

We welcome back to Goldsmiths the second annual Hyperchromatic Music Festival - come learn about and listen to contemporary microtonal music!

The study of hyperchromatic, or microtonal, music offers a new plane of tonal possibility to musicians trained in 12-note chromatic music. Because the study of hyperchromatic music is so vast and demanding, this festival has been devised to offer practical guidance for musicians to chart their own path through this seemingly infinite spectrum of tones.

The event is free and both students and members of the public are welcome to attend. This festival is in collaboration with Microtonal Projects, Goldsmiths University, and the Royal Music Association. In 2025 the festival included microtonal works written for keyboard, Lumatone, trumpet, flute, recorder, accordion, banjo, oud, violin, and voice.

With papers from Richard Whalley, Geoffrey Cox, Philip Singleton, Carla Rees, Angus Barnacle, Edward Clijsen, Emily Koh, Lore Amenabar Larrañaga and Stephen Altoft.

On Friday, April 10th, there will be three lectures between 11:00 and 14:00 and an evening listening session from 19:00-21:00. On Saturday, April 11th, there will be another series of lectures from 11am - 2pm with a live concert from 7pm - 9pm in Deptford Town Hall Council Chamber.

This event is free, but to donate to help fundraise for the musicians and lecturers in attendance, please visit this link: https://gofund.me/53866bfd1
