Event Summary
This series of workshops celebrates the richness and diversity of Chinese traditional performing arts through Chinese sword dance, fan dance and Peking Opera.
Details
Participants will explore the graceful movements, expressive rhythms and harmonious balance of strength and softness that characterise Chinese classical dance.
They will also experience the dynamic techniques of sword dance, guided by the principle of leading the sword with the body and allowing the sword to inspire the body's movement, as well as the elegant lines and rhythmic patterns created through opening, closing, waving and circling a traditional fan.
Through live demonstrations and interactive activities, participants will discover the distinctive characters, colourful face painting, music, gestures and stylised movements of Peking Opera, exploring how performers combine movement, rhythm, voice and imagination to bring stories to life. Blending practical activities, artistic demonstrations and cultural exchange.
The workshops welcome participants from all cultural backgrounds and experience levels, with no prior dance or performance experience required.
Through these engaging and accessible experiences, participants will gain a deeper appreciation of the aesthetics, cultural heritage and artistic spirit of traditional Chinese performing arts.
