In what is hoped will become a key part of The Gallery’s exhibition programme, James Unsworth completes the first residency and presents us with ‘LMWYFYW’, a series of films starring his alter ego ‘Shithead’.

Drawing influence from sources as diverse as Joe Orton’s murder and toilet graffiti (where the exhibition title comes from), Unsworth will utilise The Gallery and its surroundings within the Students’ Union as the backdrop for his films. Drawing influence from Paul McCarthy the viewer will be uncertain if they have entered post performance or whether ‘Shithead’ has embarked on another riotous rampage around Goldsmiths.

Shithead’s world is one full of gay serial killers, low budget horror, body fluids and condiments. Unsworth’s films will also explore the cyclical nature that is birth, sex and death.

Alongside the films Unsworth will also be showing a series of fake advertisements made especially for the Student’s Union building.

The residency, it is hoped, will act as an opportunity for artists to realise work outside of their normal practice and the resulting body of work of Unsworth’s residency is not to be missed.
