Dorothy Heathcote, the highly influential and much respected drama in education practitioner and theorist will give a talk via video conference. She will be speaking from the University of Derby.

In this video conference, Dorothy Heathcote will describe how a model of Mantle of the Expert can not only survive but flourish in the secondary school without disrupting the timetable and with simple organisation. Using real examples from projects carried out in schools from different parts of the country this video conference will not only inform and demonstrate how this model’s flexibility can operate, it will also provide a rare opportunity for discussion with Dorothy Heathcote herself.

Dorothy was educated at a village school, leaving at 14 to work in a weaving mill. At 19, with financial support from the mill owner, she studied at the Northern Theatre School with Esme Church, Rudolph Laban and Michel Sans Denis. Early in her career she taught drama to teachers from Bradford and Leeds and at 23 was appointed to the University of Durham to teach Froebel drama courses to Primary Heads of Schools.

In 2007 she was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of Letters by the University of Newcastle on Tyne and in 2008 Honorary Doctor of Education by the University of Derby. She regularly publishes articles based upon her practical experience in schools.
