Event overview
This event is organized by Taiwan Student Union in Goldsmiths and co-organized by Taipei Representative Office in the UK. The festival aims to create knowledge exchange in the form of film festival.
The festival aims to illumuinate the spirit of Taiwan in the form of film festival and art exhibition, together with participatory activities related to the festival's yearly theme.
There will be a series of Taiwan Documentary Festivals curated with annual theme every year. Through a variety of activities, including after-theater talks, art exhibition, workshops, seminars, etc., we hope to provide an in-depth discussion to the selected award-winning Taiwan documentary films. Film experts, producers or directors will be invited to the after-theater discussion, addressing the contemporary political, environmental, and social issues in Taiwan and the parallel issues in UK or other countries.
This year the Taiwan Documentary Festival is intended to be a part of wider cultural activity in UK, particularly in celebration of 100th anniversary of Taiwan's ROC revolution in 1911. The film festival is also part of the joint-cultural activity among all Taiwan Student Societies in the United Kingdom.

About Theme 2011: Memotopia
Taiwan Documentary Festival 2011 takes 'Memotopia', a term combining 'utopia' and 'memory' as the theme of this year. The theme illuminates the portraits of Taiwan people through their memory and dreams. Through the stories told by the protagonists in the the selected documentaries, people from different generations and ethic groups tell stories from their memory of past to the ideal of future. The theme is a tentative projection for the audience to explore the everyday life, nationality, history and culture of Taiwanese.
