Turnitin is a powerful text-matching tool. It’s primarily used for detecting possible plagiarism. This workshop covers the basics of interpreting a Turnitin report – what should cause alarm? What’s misleading? It discusses how disciplinary norms and scholarly judgement work in tandem with the software.
The workshop will also show how Turnitin can be used to improve academic literacy as a whole, and – with academic support - show students:
- how and why to reference
- quoting and paraphrasing skills
- avoiding clichés
