CAST is excited to announce Tyler Brûlé, Founder and Editor-in-Chief, Monocle will be speaking at Goldsmiths as part of the CAST public lecture series. www.tylerbrule.eventbrite.co.uk to book your free ticket.

Born in Canada and based in the UK for the past 15 years, Tyler Brûlé began his career as a reporter for the BBC, before turning to print journalism where he wrote for The Guardian, Stern, The SundayTimes and Vanity Fair.

In 1996 Brûlé launched Wallpaper*, a title that became a publishing success, going on to sell in over 50 countries. The magazine won numerous awards for its design, international relevance and use of typography, and in 2001 Brûlé became the youngest ever recipient of the British Society of Magazine Editors Lifetime Achievement Award.

In May 2002 Brûlé sold his stake in Wallpaper* to focus on developing Winkreative, the full-service branding and design agency he set up in 1998. The agency is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Swiss parent company Winkorp AG, which Brûlé founded in 2002. The award-winning business is distinguished by its international focus, editorial authority and global reach.

In February 2007, Brûlé launched Monocle, the second ground-breaking publication of his career. It is an international briefing on current affairs, business, culture and design. Published 10 times a year, Monocle is a global media brand that combines print, web and broadcast components. Distributed in over 65 countries, Monocle’s reach includes a network of over fifteen correspondents, five bureaus and an expanding mix of video and audio programming. At the same time, Monocle has created a unique retail model with freestanding shops in London, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Tokyo and New York – along with an e-commerce site on monocle.com.

Brûlé is also a regular columnist for the Financial Times.

CAST is a globally-recognised centre for teaching and research excellence in digital innovation with creative and social technologies. We are a truly interdisciplinary centre integrating computing and technology in emergent digital practices in core Goldsmiths academic strengths of media, social science, art, humanities and creative practice.
