Introduction to Africanistic Movement

This class studies widely recognised characteristic ways of moving and articulating the body, which are contrary to European dance traditions such as polyrhythmic, polydynamic and polycentric movement, yet common to the wealth cultures of Africa and of African heritage. Utilising vocabulary taken from West, Central, South Africa and the African Caribbean.

The aim of the class is to provide a firm foundation of physical understanding and appreciation of foundational characteristics movement principals to be found in dances of African heritage.
