Kate Tempest is a rapper, poet and playwright, having begun rapping in battles aged sixteen, Tempest has performed her spoken word poetry internationally, including her recent sold-out shows at Battersea Arts Centre, which saw her performing with a live musical score the epic narrative Brand New Ancients: set on the edges of the city, it explores myths of our times through the lives of two families as they collide, connect and come apart. Tempest is influenced equally by hip hop and literature from Gza of the Wu-Tang Clan to William Blake.
