Ethnographic and artists’ perspectives on felt making, embroidery and recycling.

Anna Portisch (Research Associate, Department of Anthropology and Sociology, SOAS) will show textiles from western Mongolia and speak about her research there with Kazakh women: on making felt and embroidered pieces for the yurt, the social and technical aspect of domestic textile production, and the centrality of domestic textiles in Kazakh everyday life.

Lenka Horakova and Anna Kompaniets of Akleriah will join participants in a felt making workshop by conducting ‘Performative Demonstration in Felt Land’. (Lenka and Anna are Goldsmiths’ fine art graduates. Lenka is the Christine Risley Award winner 2010.)

Please register in advance due to limited capacity by emailing textiles@gold.ac.uk
