Event overview
How about occupying Derrida for a day? Or John Searle, if that’s more to your speech-acting taste?
Or you can be both, provided you follow the script that they themselves wrote when they debated in the mid seventies.
Over the years the Searle-Derrida debate has often been seen as a classic case of the confrontation between two different philosophical traditions: analytic and continental. While we know that we are not meant to fully agree with this view, who doesn’t enjoy a deliciously good flight? Also, we felt that we could possibly enjoy it more by speech-acting it together. And since, our entire attempt in the Analytic Philosophy Society is to encourage interest in the analytic tradition, a body of thought, that we feel is often sidelined in the increasing popularity of the expanded sciences, we felt that this debate can serve as an interesting entry point.
Now, what do we mean by speech-acting together?
Well, its a bit like play-acting - where you don’t have to stress about coming up with new lines. But you can totally make the existing lines your own.
Utter it, stutter it, shout it, whisper it, sing it, dance to it, and since we are using fully organic paper, you could eat it too!
So, you then on the 7th.
