Graham’s research has encompassed the effects of class size on student performance, the impact of training university teachers, how departments become excellent at teaching, how institutions can improve teaching and how assessment can be changed to improve student learning.
He is the author of a dozen or so books and over 200 articles about the improvement of university teaching.
Graham Gibbs retired from his position as Professor and Director of the Oxford Learning Institute, University of Oxford, in 2008. He had previously held chairs at the Open University and Oxford Brookes University. He is the founder of the International Consortium for Educational Development in Higher Education and has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate for his international leadership of the improvement of teaching, by the University of Utrecht.
