Rachel Seiffert will talk about her novel 'The Dark Room', and introduce a screening of the recent film adapted from it, 'Lore'.

Rachel Seiffert: Talk and Screening

The daughter of a German mother and Australian father, Rachel Seiffert was born in Oxford. She has published three books of fiction: 'The Dark Room', shortlisted for the Booker Prize and Guardian First Book Award in 2001, and winner of the LA Times Prize for First Fiction in 2002; Field Study (2004), a collection of short stories, one of which received an award from International PEN; and Afterwards (2007) a novel, longlisted for the Orange Prize. She was named as one of Granta’s 20 Best of Young British Novelists in 2003, and her books have been translated into ten languages. She has recently been teaching fiction at Goldsmiths.

Directed by Cate Shortland, adapted from one section of The Dark Room and set in Germany immediately after the Second World War, the film Lore follows the eponymous Hannelore as she guides her four younger siblings in a perilous trek across 500 miles of mountains and forests. The film was widely praised on its release earlier this year.

After the screening, Rachel will take questions about the film and book.
