Oliver's writing focusses particularly on the life and works of composer Michael Tippett. He is currently writing a book on Tippett's vocal music - with a focus on Tippett's words and word-setting - provisionally entitled Words for Music: Words and Word-setting in the vocal music of Michael Tippett. The book is being written with the support of the composer's estate and publisher, and will contain fully footnoted appendices of the complete texts Tippett set to music.

Oliver has lectured on Tippett at London University and contributes programme notes and information for many performances of Tippett's work, most recently at the 2013 BBC Proms, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican Centre. His publications on Tippett range from articles and reviews in academic journals, to pieces for publications such as Gramophone, and the Proms Guide.

Oliver has worked both as a researcher and voice-actor for the award-winning film-maker John Bridcut, working with him most recently on a memorial film about the internationally renowned conductor Colin Davis, for broadcast on BBC4. Other voice work includes contributing readings for lectures and discussions, voice-overs for documentaries on BBC Radios 3 and 4, and both fiction and non-fiction audiobooks.

Oliver Soden is a writer and voice actor, currently living in London.

He was born in Bath, and educated at Lancing College, Sussex and Clare College, Cambridge, graduating with a prize-winning double first in English.
