Radical Media Forum will hold a series of screenings throughout the academic year, meetings which will hopefully create a platform for discussion across themes that appear in postgraduate research or are interesting to explore amongst peers, in a relaxed atmosphere. The general theme of the sensorium that one-day events and symposia are centred on will also be explored in the films screened and hopefully links will be produced between symposia, talks and the screenings.

The first film to be screened will be Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s The Third Generation (Die Dritte Generation), a film written, directed and produced by Fassbinder in 1979 in West Germany. The film is a dark reflection on terrorism, televisual media and the reconfiguration of beliefs and actions of a generation raised on the background of real and symbolic violence, through division and conflict, both in the aftermath of the Holocaust and the East/West separation of Germany.

The screening will be introduced by Vlad Morariu (Loughborough Univerisity) and Mihaela Brebenel (Goldsmiths).

Running time: 111 mins, followed by a short discussion.
