“No one has ever looked at us as human in Hollywood. We’re savages, or mystic warriors, we’re never portrayed as human" (Chaske Spencer, lead actor in Winter in the Blood).

Alex and Andrew Smith's adaptation of James Welch's seminal novel - also titled Winter in the Blood - throws into stark relief the realities of life on the Blackfeet reserve in Montana.

The Smith brothers, already well known for their movie The Slaughter Rule which starred Ryan Gosling, challenge and subvert the stereotypes that are all too often associated with America's Native peoples. Join Virgil, the character played by Spencer (Skins, The Twilight Saga), on his journey.
