The Adaptation of Francesco Bianchi's opera 'Semiramide' for the King's Theatre London

Miguel Esteban moved to London in 2001 after completing a degree in Law from the University of Deusto (Bilbao). In 2004 he graduated in Music from Goldsmiths College – University of London with first class honours, having also received an award from the Goldsmiths Society in 2002. As a pianist, other awards include a first prize in the second edition of ‘Juan Antxieta’ performance competition in 2000 and a distinction from the Conservatory of Bilbao in 2001. As a student at Goldsmiths, Miguel contributed to re-establish the Goldsmiths Music Society and became the conductor of its Chamber Orchestra and Chorus.
As a musical director, Miguel has also worked with ‘Mean Time Opera’ in a production of Bizet’s Carmen at Greenwich Theatre, and with Opera Gold in productions of John Blow’s Venus and Adonis, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, and Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. Miguel has also conducted the ‘Orquesta Julián Orbón’ (Avilés, Spain) in a concert featuring Beethoven’s ‘Pastoral’ Symphony, and a program of Spanish music with the orchestra ‘I Maestri’ at St. John’s Smith Square. Also, Miguel is passionate about historically aware performance practice and equally at home working with modern or period instrument ensembles.
In 2006 Miguel completed a MMus in Historical Musicology, achieving a distinction for his work on John Eccles’s ‘Ode for the Birthday of Queen Anne’ (1703). Prompted by his interest in research and early music, Miguel started a PhD project in September 2010 on Italian opera composer Francesco Bianchi (1752-1810).
Miguel is also the principal conductor at ‘Orquesta de los Adioses’, a professional chamber orchestra created in September 2007 that prides itself in offering an alternative musical and extra-musical experience in every concert. The formation has regularly collaborated with all-male vocal group ‘The Queen’s Six’ for whom Miguel has also written numerous arrangements. One of his vocal arrangements has recently been performed by ‘The King’s Singers’ in their Mexican tour.
Miguel is also the Music Director of Albion Baroque Orchestra, a new and exciting ensemble that focuses on music created and performed in Britain in the Baroque.
