With the Sochi Olympics in Russia coming to a close, Amnesty LDN delves into the future of LGBT+ rights in the country through a panel discussion led by some of the leading activists in the field.

Amnesty International has documented an increase in harassment of LGBT+ organizations by the state and attacks on LGBT+ individuals by vigilante groups across Russia since January 2013, when Russia’s Duma unanimously passed an overtly discriminatory law which prohibits “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations among minors”.

Why and how should the spotlight remain firmly fixed on the issues that LGBT+ communities in Russia will continue to face once all the fuss and commotion of the Winter Olympics begins to fade?

The panel:

Natacha Kennedy is a researcher at Goldsmith focusing on trans issues and children. She is International Officer of LGBT labour Natacha and promotes trans people’s humans rights both here in the UK and internationally.

Natalia Prilutskaya is the Russia Team Campaigner at the Amnesty International Secretariat.

Peter Tatchell has been campaigning for human rights, democracy, LGBT freedom and global justice since 1967. He is Director of the Peter Tatchell Foundation, a human rights organisation.

Zoe O'Connell is an Equality and LGBT rights campaigner and an executive member of both DELGA (LGBT Liberal Democrats) and the East of England Liberal Democrats.

Doors at 7pm with a prompt 7.30pm start. This event is completely free but with limited capacity, so be sure to turn up early to avoid disappointment.

All are welcome to attend, so feel free to invite your friends, colleagues and acquaintances.

In true Amnesty LDN style there will be an opportunity to socialise after the event if you so wish!
