MSc CGE: Games Industry Seminar Series 2013-14

Main subject: “OlliOlli - from iOS to PlayStation Vita”

Speakers: Tom Hegarty, Director and Nikos Asfis, Senior Coder of Roll7 (and Goldsmiths MSc CGE alumnus)

Tom and Nikos will provide a glimpse of the stages Roll7 went through to take OlliOlli from a basic iOS prototype to a fully fledged PlayStation Vita title. The game has since won Gamespots ‘Game of the Month’ and been touted as potential Game of The Year by several major sites including Eurogamer, Polygon and Gamasutra.

As well as giving a history of game, our Senior Coder will be on hand to answer technical and development related questions as well as speak to students who are interested in being an intern on our next project which will be released on PlayStation 4 and Vita.

We have one intern opportunity for a C++ developer and are exploring the option of taking on a QA intern as well. More detail will be provided about both these opportunities on the day.

Tom Hegarty
Director and founder of Roll7, Tom has founded, run and sold a number of successful creative and Multimedia businesses since 2003. He set up Roll7 in 2008 with John Ribbins and Simon Bennett with the aim of developing and releasing our own Video Games. The company initially worked as a ‘gun for hire’ in order to build up enough money to create our own games. In 2012 Roll7 released Gets To The Exit for iOS which paved the way for PlayStation to Fund OlliOlli as well as a separate project to be Published by Devolver Digital. Tom is producing Roll7’s next PlayStation and Steam title as well as running the press campaigns.

Nikos Asfis
Senior Coder at Roll7, Nikos initially joined Roll7 as an intern via Goldsmiths and quickly became an integral part of Roll7 and was Senior Coder on Focus Pocus, Gets To the Exit, OlliOllli and Roll7s as yet unannounced PS4 and Vita title. Nikos has a Masters in Computer Games and Entertainment from Goldsmiths as well as an Applied Maths and Physics degree. Nikos built from scratch, the engines for Gets to The Exit and OlliOlli and is now working with Phyre Engine for Roll7’s latest Project.
