Unit for Sound Practice Research and the Electronic Music Studios presents Mats Lindström.

Mats will talk about both his own musical work (most of it has a significant social component), and well as present an overview of new music and sound art in Sweden and the activities of EMS, the venerable Swedish national electronic music studio. A rare chance to get inside information on one of the most important centers for experimental sound work in Europe.

Born 1960 in Sweden, Mats Lindstrom works as as a composer and a musician, often with strains of live-electronics. With a background as technician in electronics industry he has constructed unique electronic musical instruments. He often works with intermedia, scenic elements and visual arts as a complement to the music, and he has worked both with music for theatre and dance. He has been a member of the Fylkingen society for new music and intermedia since the eighties. He worked as producer for the Fylkingen society 1992-95 and as president 1998-2000. During 2002-2003 he worked as festival coordinator for the Stockholm New Music festival. In 2004 he became the Director of the Elektronmusikstudion (EMS) in Stockholm.

Mats Lindström's talk is presented in conjunction with Cafe Oto's Swedish Energies program of electronic and improvisational music, curated by Mats Curated by Mats Lindström & Joachim Nordwal, celebrating the Elektronmusikstudion (EMS) in Stockholm, which was founded in 1964.

The program on Saturday 8 March at Cafe Oto features
