As part of the Department of Music's PureGold season, we present an evening concert by Trio Rewind

Trio Rewind will play three sets of improvised music.

Trio Rewind focus bring a quiet intensity to their improvised music, but there is always a sense of something held back. It is as if amongst the abstract fragments of sound and texture there are lurking mute shadow melodies, waiting to burst out or be given their voice. At such moments the Trio move into 'rewind mode', exploring short stray echoes of blues, jazz chords, Latin rhythms, sometimes progressing to sustained melodic passages.

Noel Taylor -B flat Clarinet, Alto Clarinet and Bass Clarinet
Tom Wheatley - Double Bass
John García Rueda - Tiple

John García Rueda, studying for a MMus in creative practice at Goldsmiths, plays the tiple, a 12 stringed Colombian guitar. He has a deeply intuitive approach to his playing. Although he often searches for quietness and abstraction, one senses a tripwire descent into darker territory might be just around the corner.

Tom Wheatley is a young bassist who focuses very much on placement and timing – frequently eschewing the obvious in favour of more oblique insertions into musical space.

Noel Taylor, on clarinet, sifts through these fragments of sound, seaching for tonalities that trigger a memory, a fleeting response, a passing echo of things heard before, the past embedded in the present, entering into full rewind.
