As part of the Department of Music's PureGold season, we present an evening of Latin-American protest songs

Alex Etchart and Violeta Garcia invite you to an evening of Latin American folk songs and anthems from the Pan-American liberation movements in the '60s and '70s. The show features a mix of original language songs and poetic translations, arranged for two voices, guitar and violin.

Prepare to be led through a musical journey that will both excite your revolutionary fervour and lament the painful memories of the CIA coups and dictatorships that followed.

Alex Etchart (vocals, guitar, translation) is a second generation Uruguayan exile and Violeta Garcia (vocals, violin) comes from the front line of present-day social movements in Madrid.
