Workshop & Concert with Ashley Paul

Premiered at Roundhouse, London on 2 August 2013 with Nik Colk Void and Simon Fisher Turner, this exciting work by Ashley Paul will be performed this evening by members of the Goldsmiths MMus student community, led by the composer herself. Each performer is encouraged to find their own voice within the structure of the piece using improvisation, manipulation of the samples, interpretation of the melodic lines and creation of textures. The performers are spaced around the perimeter of the room and the intention is to create spontaneous combinations, both temporally and spatially. Therefore the audience will be exposed to a sort of palimpsest of sound, revealed from different parts of the room and through the passing of time.

Ashley Paul is a performer and composer based in Brooklyn, New York. She uses an array of instruments including saxophone, clarinet, voice, guitar, bells and percussion, mixing disparate elements to create a colorful palate of sound that works its way into her intuitive songs; free forming, introverted melodies. This blend manifests beautiful and simple musical forms against acoustic experimentation.

All welcome

Ashley Paul
