Funded by the Economic and Social Science Research Council and organised by a group of academics based at Lancaster, York, Durham and Goldsmiths.

This conference brings together leading researchers from the UK, America, Canada, Australia and Europe with those working on methodologies for mapping the future in the public, private and third sectors.

Explore the contours of ‘the future’ in our current context of multiple financial, ecological and political crises. We are interested in drawing out intersections between the variety of ways that the future is imagined, planned for and performed across the arts, humanities and social sciences.

Confirmed keynote speakers:

Professor Lisa Adkins (Sociology, University of Newcastle Australia), ‘Speculative Futures in Austere Times’

Respondent: Professor Celia Lury (Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies, University of Warwick)

Professor Patricia Clough (Sociology and Women’s Studies, Queens College and the Graduate Center, City University of New York), 'Beyond Neoliberalism: Bodies, Affect and Calculation’

Respondent: Dr Ben Anderson (Geography, University of Durham)

Professor Mike Michael (Sociology, University of Sydney, Australia and Sociology, Goldsmiths, University of London), ‘Big Futures, Little Futures…’

Respondent: Professor Nik Brown (Sociology, University of York)
