MADDY PAXMAN will read from and discuss her memoir "The Great Below - a journey into loss" with Blake Morrison. Eva Salzman, Jack Underwood and Maura Dooley will read a selection of Michael Donaghy’s poems.

Maddy Paxman’s husband, the poet Michael Donaghy, died suddenly at the age of fifty. After the shock of his unexpected death, the funeral and the public mourning of this well-loved and critically acclaimed writer, Maddy Paxman was faced with helping their young son deal with the loss of his father. She also had to come to terms herself with being a sole parent ‘trying to be both banks of the river’. In this honest account, written with warmth and humour, Paxman takes an unflinching look at what it means both to grieve and to love.

Maddy Paxman is a painter, musician and currently teaches Alexander Technique. This is her first book.

Please email m.macdonald@gold.ac.uk to reserve a place.
