The Whitehead Lectures in Cognition, Computation and Culture - Autumn 2014

Wednesday 29th October, 2014 - RHB 137a, 4pm

Speaker
Prof Ilona Kovacs

Abstract
The extremely long phase of cortical organization provides the human brain with an extended sensitivity for environmental impact, including aspects of both adaptability and vulnerability. While it is clear that the protracted plasticity of the human brain has evolutionary advantages, it has not yet been clarified what neural mechanisms bring the cortical networks to a fully developed stability, and permit a child to enter adulthood. We will try to contribute to the clarification of this issue.

Brief Bio
Ilona Kovacs is Professor of Psychology, head of the Laboratory of Psychological Research, and chair of the Department of General Psychology at PPCU, Budapest. She studied for a degree in Psychology at Eotvos University, Budapest, and then spent more than 10 years at Rutgers University in the US.
