The Unit for Sound Practice Research at Goldsmiths University, in collaboration with Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, The Game of Life Foundation and Mondriaan Foundation, is presenting the First Symposium on Sound and Movement Practices.

This is a unique opportunity for composers, sound artists, choreographers and dancers interested in spatial sound and its connection with dance. The symposium is featuring The Game of Life Wave Field Synthesis System of 192 Loudspeakers, and is offering two days of free workshops with the system, led by Wouter Snoei, with dedicated hands-on sessions. Participants will learn how to use the WFSCollider software to control sound projections in space, and will explore spatial sound and its potential application to music making and dance.

The Schedule in brief:
Sunday November 23rd
2PM-6PM: Welcome Introduction and Talks. Featured Keynote by John Drever on "The Heritage of Collaboration between Music, Sound, Architecture and the Natural World"

Monday November 24th:
9AM-4PM: Workshop with The Game of Life System for Wave Field Synthesis, led by Wouter Snoei, Part 1
4PM-6PM: The Game of Life Showcase: more than one hour of spatial music by Dutch and international composers, all specially written for the WFS system.

Tuesday November 25th
9AM-2PM: Workshop with The Game of Life System for Wave Field Synthesis, led by Wouter Snoei, Part 2
2PM-3PM: Demo of Dance and Sonic Movement practice, by Jalianne Li,Choreographer, and Tommaso Perego, Sound Designer
4PM-6PM Stranded: A performance for Three Dancers and Sonic Movement. WFS technology allows sound to be moved and placed around a diffusion area: the idea is to create a dance piece where Dance is proposed as a visual and physical counterpart to Music and its movement in a joint choreography. Dancers and audience will be placed within the sound projection space to experience a work of unusual visual and acoustic perspectives.

Participation is free of charge, but with limited capacity: Please reserve a place soon!
