As part of the Department of Music's PureGold season, we present an evening concert featuring 3rd year student Robin Haigh's new opera 'The Man Who Woke Up’'

The Goldsmiths Chamber Orchestra and New Chamber Opera, conducted by Jules Cavalie, present Robin Haigh's opera, plus a new orchestral work by Ebony Maya Steven.

The Man Who Woke Up – Synopsis
A man wakes up in a strange world where he is surrounded by strange sounds and where he has to sing every word he thinks. The arrival of a heard-but-not-seen-bewitching cat’s owner learns him he woke up in an opera, it is not long till he faces the actual cat and meets the neglected wife of the cats owner. The man tries everything to go back to his own world, but ignoring the cats real intentions and powers.

Hosted by the Department of Music at Goldsmiths, this series of concerts gives students an opportunity to perform their work in the grand surroundings of Deptford Town Hall. The performance is open to all staff and students at Goldsmiths, as well as members of the public.

PureGold forms part of a summer of Goldsmiths Degree Shows across the capital, including exhibitions and shows from the Departments of Art, Theatre and Performance, and Design.
