The Contemporary Music Research Unit is pleased to present our new series of visiting composer talks starting with Claudia Molitor on Oct 5th, 6.00pm
Claudia Molitor is a composer/artist whose work draws on traditions of music and sound practices but also extends to video, performance and fine art. Her work often becomes a site where conventions of music notation and performance, and hierarchies of listening and seeing are explored. Running through her practice is a curiosity in un-noticed and fragile sounds, structures and thoughts. Considering the possibilities presented by the spaces between notions of artistic disciplines is also central to her work.
Claudia’s work is regularly commissioned, performed and broadcast throughout Europe, working for example with hcmf//, Wien Modern, London Sinfonietta, Royal Philharmonic Society, Spor, Tete a Tete, BBC Proms, Tate Britain, Electra Productions, Sonica, NMC Recordings, Spitalfields Music, Ensemble Resonanz and Cryptic.
Some recent work includes 'Remember me… ' a miniature deskOpera produced by Cryptic that toured throughout 2012 and 2013 to hcmf//, sound, NovemberMusic and Sonic-a, New Directions and Spitalfields Music.

Her headphone piece for the BBC Proms Music Walk, an event curated by Tim Hopkins, is downloadable from Proms 2012.
She is currently working on 'Sonorama', a work for the rail journey from St Pancras to Margate for June 2015 with David Hendy, Electra Productions, Turner Contemporary, Southeastern Rail, The British Library, Uniform Books and Hornby. She is also working on the Objects for and Exhibition project by The Science Museum, and Aurora Orchestra.
She has worked collaboratively with many other artists and was co-founder and festival director of Soundwaves Festival, a music and sound focussed multi-arts festival that took place in Brighton (UK), as well as artistic co-director of the interdisciplinary music and visual arts festival TöNE: a meeting of sound and light in Medway. She is a lecturer in music at The University of Kent.
